Why GPs Refer to Chiropractors
(Even if Some Don’t)

Why GPs Choose To Refer To Us

At Adjusting to Health, we’ve worked hard over the years to build g
enuine, respectful, and professional relationships with many GPs in Bonnyrigg, Doonside, and surrounding suburbs like Edensor Park and St Johns Park. Today, we’re proud to say that many of our patients walk through our doors because their GP referred them. Why? Because they’ve seen the results, and they trust our process.

If your GP doesn’t refer to Chiropractors, or only refers to physiotherapists, it’s often simply because they’ve never had a chance to fully understand what Chiropractors do, especially in a modern, evidence-informed clinic like ours.

We Work With Local GPs - Not Against Them

Some patients think that Chiropractors and GP's dislike each other. That's not true, Our goal is always to support the broader healthcare community. We believe that when GPs and Chiropractors collaborate, patients win.

That’s why we:

  • Routinely provide patient progress reports to GPs upon request
  • Communicate directly if a patient has complex needs
  • Support chronic disease management plans and shared-care approaches
  • Refer patients back to their GP when something needs further investigation

We’ve worked alongside many general practitioners across Bonnyrigg, Doonside, Blacktown, Edensor Park and Green Valley, helping their patients achieve better outcomes with musculoskeletal issues, posture-related dysfunction, and chronic headaches/migraines.

We’re not here to replace your GP. We’re here to support your health from another angle, and we respect the role your GP plays in your healthcare journey. Want to learn more about your New Patient Journey at Adjusting to Health? Click here 👉 Journey

Some GPs Don’t Refer Yet, And That’s Okay

There are some GPs who only refer to physiotherapists, and that’s completely understandable, in most cases, it’s simply what they know. They may have had little or no exposure to Chiropractic care beyond what may have been covered in university or what they’ve seen online.

Unfortunately, that may indicate that they don't know that:

  • Chiropractors are primary healthcare providers in Australia
  • Go through 5 years of intense university study, clinical assessments and examinations in order
  • Must comply with AHPRA guidelines, complete CPD each year and maintain first aid/CPR certifications.

At Adjusting to Health our Chiropractors;

  • Don’t just “crack backs” - we assess movement, posture, neurology, and structure
  • Use functional testing, progress reviews, and clear metrics to track patient improvement
  • May be able to help patients who aren’t getting results from other modalities

That’s why we regularly visit local GP clinics across Bonnyrigg, Green Valley, Mt Pritchard, and surrounding suburbs, to educate doctors and healthcare professionals on what we do, what kinds of patients benefit from Chiropractic, and how we can work together to create better outcomes for their patients.

What Makes Our Clinic So GP-Friendly?

Our GPs tell us that they choose refer to us over other Chiropractors in the area because we provide;

  • ✅ Structured care plans that go beyond just treating symptoms
  • ✅ Communication that’s respectful and professional
  • ✅ Measurable results that GPs trust and understand
  • ✅ Patient-centered education that helps our patients understand their body better
  • ✅ Empower our patients to take ownership of their health

We’re not the “in-and-out” style of Chiropractic clinic.

We spend time explaining the what, the why, and the how, both to patients and to referring doctors.

Most importantly: we get results for our patients.

You Don’t Need a Referral

While many of our patients are referred by GPs, you don’t need one to see us. Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners and trained to diagnose and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions independently. However, if your GP is involved in your care, or you’d like them to be, we’ll happily share our findings, progress, and next steps with them.
It’s part of our commitment to collaborative healthcare.

So whether you live in Bonnyrigg, Doonside, Blacktown, Woodcroft, Plumpton, Fairfield, Cabramatta, Green Valley, or Edensor Park, we’re here to be part of your long-term health and wellness team.
