I'm Pregnant, Can I Get Chiropractic Care?

Is Chiropractic Good for Pregnancy?

Pregnancy is one of the most powerful, life-changing seasons a woman can go through. With that comes a rapidly changing body that needs to adapt, shift, and carry more than ever before.

At Adjusting to Health, we regularly care for women through every stage of pregnancy. Chiropractic is not only safe during pregnancy but can be incredibly supportive for both mum and bub when done by one of our trained and experienced Chiropractors.

Across our practice locations, we see women every day that are in their first, second and third trimesters. If you're ready to help support your body and nervous system deliver the healthiest baby with professional care and guidance the Adjusting to Health team is excited to help.

Care provided at Adjusting to Health is always safe and effective. We don't guess, we test... Yes, with pregnant mums too.

Is Chiropractic Safe During Pregnancy?

Yes, when delivered by a Chiropractor trained in pregnancy care. At Adjusting to Health, Chiropractic is safe, gentle, and adapted to your body’s changing needs.

At no point do we twist or rotate your lower back or pelvis in ways that could compromise comfort or safety for you or your baby. Our techniques for pregnant women are different, focused on gentle movements, pelvic alignment, and relieving stress as the baby grows.

We may use pregnancy pillows and special tables that support your belly, allowing you to lie face down comfortably and safely. Or, if you're already in your third trimester you'll most likely be seated for most procedures.

Why Some GPs Tell Pregnant Women to Stop Chiropractic Care

This is something we hear from patients occasionally.

Some GPs may advise their patients to stop Chiropractic during pregnancy. It’s not because they believe it’s harmful, and not because there’s any evidence that it’s unsafe. In most cases, it’s because they don’t know whether the chiropractor is trained or experienced in caring for pregnant women  and in that uncertainty, the safest advice they can give is to stop.

We completely understand this cautious approach but when you’re in the care of a chiropractor who is trained in pregnancy care, stopping may not only be unnecessary it might mean missing out on key benefits.

We’re happy to speak directly with your GP if they’d like to understand more about how we work at Adjusting to Health.

How Chiropractic Can Support You During Pregnancy

Pregnancy creates a lot of new demands on your spine, pelvis, and nervous system. Hormonal changes increase joint laxity, your centre of gravity shifts, and there’s increased stress on the lower back, hips, and pelvis often leading to discomfort or dysfunction.

Many pregnant women see us for support with:

Pelvic or pubic pain

Lower back pain and sciatica

Hip tightness or instability

Postural strain and mid-back tension

Sleep disruptions

Our goal is always to help your body move, rest, and recover with ease throughout each trimester.

When Can You Start and What Happens?

You can begin Chiropractic at any stage of pregnancy, including pre-conception. Some women come to us early in their pregnancy to have a better pregnancy from the start. Others begin when discomfort starts to affect their sleep, mobility, or mood in a more noticeable way or discover how important vagal tone is during a pregnancy.

It’s never too late to support your spine and nervous system, even in the final weeks.

Your care will always be:

  • Tailored to your trimester and comfort level
  • Gentle and focused on reducing stress and restoring balance
  • Guided by ongoing assessment and feedback from you

We use pregnancy cushions to support your bump and keep you comfortable, and we’ll explain everything as we go.

You’re always in control, and your care is built around your needs.
