When We Refer Out

Assessment First.
Decisions Based on Findings.

At Adjusting to Health, referral decisions are never based on assumptions, opinions, or symptoms alone.

They are made after a thorough examination as part of the
Health Blueprint™ Process.

In many cases, the safest first step is not guessing where to go next, but being properly assessed by professionals trained to evaluate spinal and nervous system function.

Why Starting With Assessment Matters

Many patients are unsure where to begin.

Symptoms alone can be misleading, and opinions often vary depending on who you ask. What matters most is objective assessment.

Our role is to:

  • Examine spinal and neurological function
  • Identify patterns that may explain symptoms
  • Determine whether Chiropractic care is appropriate
  • Decide whether referral or further investigation is required

This ensures the next step in your care is based on evidence and findings, not guesswork.

We Refer When

Referral is required when examination findings indicate that care should be led by another healthcare provider.

This may include situations where:

  • Findings suggest non-mechanical or systemic causes
  • Medical investigation is needed to rule out serious pathology
  • Imaging is required before Chiropractic care can proceed safely
  • Another provider is better positioned to manage the primary condition

Importantly, these decisions are made after testing, not simply because symptoms sound concerning.

This reflects our philosophy:

We Don’t Guess. We Test.

Understanding “Symptoms” vs Function

Patients are often told their symptoms are “non-specific”, “due to aging”, or that scans show “nothing wrong”.

In medical terms, this often means:

  • No fracture
  • No infection
  • No cancer

Medicine does not assess:

  • How the spine is moving and if it's healthy
  • How the nervous system is functioning and adapting
  • Whether posture or loading patterns are contributing

These functional and neurological factors are exactly what Chiropractic assessment is designed to evaluate.

This is why often patients come to us after medical investigations have ruled out serious disease and failed to explain ongoing pain and dysfunction. Our intention is to get right to the cause from the beginning, patients that often have the best experience come straight to us for a proper assessment and evaluation. At Adjusting to Health, we don't guess, we test.

Neurological and Progressive Conditions

Chiropractic care does not claim to treat disease.

However, Chiropractors are specifically trained to assess:

  • Nervous system function
  • Spinal mechanics and movement
  • Neurological integrity and spinal health

When findings indicate that a condition requires medical management, we refer appropriately. When findings suggest functional or neurological involvement within scope, Chiropractic care may be considered.

Clear differentiation between these pathways is a core part of the Health Blueprint™ Process.

Working With GPs and Other Providers

GPs play an important role in healthcare, particularly in ruling out infectious disease and genetic conditions.

We regularly collaborate with:

  • Medical Doctors
  • Radiologists
  • Medical specialists
  • Other Allied health professionals

In many cases, Chiropractic assessment complements medical care rather than replacing it for those that choose to incorporate a Western Medicine practitioner.

How This Fits in with the Health Blueprint™ Process

The Health Blueprint™ Process is designed to:

  • Start with assessment, not assumptions
  • Identify when Chiropractic care is appropriate
  • Recognise when referral or medical care is required
  • Protect patient safety at every stage

Not every patient who books proceeds into Chiropractic care, and that selectiveness is intentional.
