Is Chiropractic Safe? What Earlwood Locals Need to Know

One of the most common concerns we hear from first-time patients is:

“I’ve heard that chiropractic can be dangerous. Is it actually safe?”

And it’s a fair questions, especially when you’re trusting someone with your spine.

Here’s the short answer: Contrary to what some may say, Chiropractic is actually the safest treatment for musculoskeletal pain (when performed by a trained professional) in the world. Research shows that Chiropractic is not only safe but associated with decreased risk of permanent disability, impaired function or increased pain when compared to spinal surgery.

What the Research Actually Says

Despite what some headlines may suggest, serious complications associated with Chiropractic care are extremely rare.

A large study published in the Spine journal showed no greater risk of stroke from Chiropractic neck adjustments than from visiting a GP for similar symptoms (view study). Treatment prescribed by GPs when compared to Chiropractic was found to lead to more unfavourable side effects and was also associated with a decrease in overall health.

In fact, the chance of a Chiropractic adjustment causing a stroke is zero, there is no risk.
Statistically Chiropractic is approximately 20,000 safer than spinal surgery when comparing the chance of death.  The question we should be asking instead is 'Can Chiropractic Care Help Me?'

Most side effects, like mild soreness, are temporary and no different than what you might feel after starting a new exercise routine or going to the gym for the first time in weeks.
